ZTE has announced that it has won a contract from China Unicom to build HSPA+ PTN (packet transport network) networks for seven key cities including Changchun, Ningbo and Wuhan.
In order to enhance its 3G and broadband services, China Unicom has been strengthening its development of PTN technology since 2009 to increase its local network speeds. As the PTN network is mainly deployed in urban areas where services are concentrated, it is considered an important upgrade for HSPA+ sites.
The construction of this PTN network has also officially enabled the transition of China Unicom’s Delivery Network, laying a solid foundation to facilitate its 3G and 4G strategies in the future.
Financial terms and the timeline of the upgrade project were not provided
