31 October 2017, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, recently supported webe digital Sdn Bhd (webe), a Malaysian mobile operator, on deployment of a virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) network, which has been commercially launched now.
As the exclusive supplier, ZTE provides webe a full range of systems from underlying hardware, virtualization platform, to upper layer applications. The collaboration indicates that both parties have entered into a new phase of virtualization.
webe, a member of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) and the largest fixed network communication carrier in Malaysia, has begun deploying LTE networks in Malaysia since 2014. In addition, it introduced package service with unlimited data, SMS and calls in 2016, which brought a great challenge to the traditional Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network.
To address customer needs, ZTE designed a solution which allows vEPC system and legacy EPC network to form a hybrid network featuring elasticity and on-demand deployment. In addition, ZTE also provided customized services for webe. To meet webe’s expansion needs, ZTE strategically designed the virtual core network, which not only saves investment, operation and maintenance costs, but also satisfies new service needs, including 5G, Internet of Things (IoT) and sustainable development of the network.
“ZTE is happy to provide customized professional EPC equipment and services to address webe’s ongoing business needs,” said Xu Ziyang, president of ZTE's telecom cloud and core network products. “The introduction of virtualization technology will make webe’s network resource management more optimal, efficient and flexible. This will also make it more convenient to add new network functions and products, enhancing user experience.”
ZTE is always committed to providing innovative and cutting-edge virtualization solutions, and actively participates in standard formulation to improving the industry chain. To date, ZTE has launched a whole portfolio of cloudification solutions including Cloud Native, Carrier DevOps and Cloud ServCore to help operators accelerate digital transformation. It has also deployed over 240 commercial/Proof of Concept (PoC) cases of virtualization products globally, leading the progress of network cloudification.
