17 November 2017, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, won “Fixed Broadband Innovation of the Year” with its flagship optical access platform, the TITAN. This honor was bestowed by Telecom Asia in its 2017 Readers’ Choice & Innovation Awards in Singapore on November 16, 2017.
The annual Telecom Asia Readers' Choice & Innovation Awards recognize the major technological innovations and accomplishments of telecom equipment suppliers in the Asia Pacific region. Regarding ZTE winning the "Fixed Broadband Innovation of the Year" award, Telecom Asia noted, "ZTE has revamped the traditional optical access, and TITAN will help the telecom operators to support the high-bandwidth video and other broadband services, and ease the network transformation."
The award draws the industry’s attention once again to the TITAN based on a brand-new architecture, sparking an industry-wide discussion on the development of access networks.
In the next ten years, the broadband will become ubiquitous just like water, electricity and air. According to the initial estimate, data traffic generated by home users will increase by up to 100 times. Broadband application scenarios will be diversified with applications such as big video, 5G, the interconnection of massive smart home devices, corporate leased line and the industrial Internet posing different requirements for the network. The traditional telecom network architecture will undergo a profound transformation towards the DC(Data Center)-centered, SDN/NFV and on-demand evolving network.
Based on an incisive understanding of the future optical access network, ZTE launched the TITAN, a new-generation flagship optical access product following the network development trend. The TITAN is compatible with three generations of technology: GPON, 10G PON and 100G PON.
With the leading fully-distributed system and a switching capacity four times the existing highest level of the industry, the TITAN fulfills the stringent requirements for access networks imposed by big video, 5G services, and the Internet of Everything. In addition, the industry's highest slot bandwidth of the TITAN at 400G enables the smooth evolution towards 10G PON, NG-PON2 and 100G PON, helping operators maximize investment value. Equipped with the industry's first Combo PON solution, the TITAN also facilitates operators to upgrade GPON to 10G PON at low cost.
Another highlight of the TITAN is its unique technology of integrated access and transmission. With built-in upstream OTN boards, the technology allows traffic to go to the data center promptly. It is estimated that this technology can reduce equipment footprint by 25%, power consumption by 30% and CAPEX by 50%.
The TITAN is oriented towards network re-architecture and supports SDN/NFV evolution, enabling the separation of the control and forwarding planes, and it is capable of deployment at an edge data center (EDC). In addition, the TITAN uses the 25G WDM PON technology and the TDM-like technology, which are based on the cell switching mechanism, allowing it to fully meet the low-latency, high-bandwidth requirements of 5G fronthaul and middlehaul.
"ZTE wins this prestigious award in an intense competition, which shows the industry's recognition of the TITAN platform as well as ZTE's perception on future evolution of broadband networks,” said Cai Jingzhe, vice president at ZTE.
A recent report from the research firm IHS shows that ZTE's fixed access offerings are in a leading role in not only technological innovation but also market performance. In terms of market share, ZTE is a top 2 vendor for fixed access products and ranks No. 1 in the 10G PON segment.
