12 March 2018, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that its ZXR10 T8000 core router is capable of supporting SDN backbone network traffic optimization, and becomes the first in the industry to provide the new Bit Indexed Explicit Replication (BIER) technology. The innovation ZTE has made in high-end router will optimize the future-oriented seamless network solution, and help operators prepare for the big data challenges in the cloud and 5G era.
Currently, the booming development of cloud services, Internet videos,VR and AR services has driven rapid traffic growth in operators’ backbone networks. The network traffic flow and its changes become unpredictable and fluctuating dramatically, which results in uneven traffic and low link resource utilization. Meanwhile, the traffic duplication and backup inside DC and between DCs, as well as the distributed storage lead to explosive growth in multicast service demands. However, the traditional multicast protocol cannot meet all the traffic needs.
As the core component based on SDN traffic optimization system, ZXR10 T8000 router supports multiple northbound interfaces. It can implement visualization and analysis of the global traffic in the IP network, take traffic optimization and scheduling based on policies, so as to help operators realize intelligent and automatic traffic optimization. In this way, it can achieve load balancing, reduce link congestion ratio, delay network expansion, and improve user experiences. T8000 router supports complete SDN in backbone network, providing backbone network traffic optimization in scenarios of RR+, Traffic Engineering+ (TE+), and Segment Routing (SR), which perfectly meets the trend of SDN technologies being integrated with backbone network.
The traditional multicast protocol is easily affected by the link status, so the network maintenance and trouble shooting are complicated. At the same time, high performance of equipment is required. In contrast, BIER is a simplified multicast packet forwarding technology. It removes the complex multicast protocol and multicast forwarding tables. It can efficiently distribute multicast packets only by switching the messages of the multicast senders and receivers instead of maintaining multicast flow status, which perfectly fits the philosophy of SDN centralized control.
ZTE is one of the first enterprises in China to start the research in BIER standards. It also takes an active part in standards establishment, and becomes a top researcher in the industry. As the first core router to support the new multicast BIER, ZXR10 T8000 creates the concept of multicast-on-demand and makes it possible for OTT service providers to launch customized multicast services.
ZTE has been focusing on the intelligent O&M of IP WAN and dedicated to the development of ultra-large-capacity core router of high reliability, to build the intelligent, open and integrated transport network, assist operators in SDN evolution and keep a leading position in the market.
