Shanghai Hosts the World Engineers´ Convention 2004

The World Engineers’ Convention 2004 (WEC2004) was held on November 2-6,2004 in Shanghai, China. The motto of the convention is "Engineers Shape the Sustainable Future." It advocates that engineers should take the task of making people’s life better and commit to creating a new world.

    Engineers should be well aware of their responsibilities:developing new technologies and making good use of them, in order to save resources, reduce pollutions, protect human health and ecological environment, and promote sustainable development. The engineer’s basic ethics: honesty, equality and anti-corruption, should be strictly observed.

    Sponsored by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the WEC2004 was held by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Shanghai Government, attracting more than
3 000 elite engineers from around the world taking part in the great event.

    Topics for discussion at the convention include Network Engineering and Information Society, Biological Engineering and Health-Care, Transportation and Sustainable Mega-cities, Environment Protection and Disaster Mitigation, Agricultural Engineering, Food Security and Safety, Resources and Energy, Power and Energy, Ecological Material and Green Manufacturing.

    The conference is supposed to be held every four years. The World Engineers’ Convention 2008 will be held in Brazil.
