ZTE Rushes Telecommunications Equipment to Indian Ocean Earthquake Regions
ZTE Corporation has donated mobile telecommunications network equipment and handsets worth $2.5 million to help restore communications in areas of India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia devastated by the Indian Ocean earthquake in December 2004.
The equipment has already been dispatched and wherever possible, ZTE’s own engineers were working with local people to bring vital telecommunications services back on line. "We are facing a human catastrophe of giant proportions and when something like this happens you just feel you must do something to help fellow human beings," said Mr. Yin Yimin, ZTE CEO. "We hope our equipment will help the marvelous work of the international aid agencies and the local governments. Our hopes and good wishes reach out to the people in those countries".
ZTE Strengthens West African Mobile Market Position with National GSM Network and Introduction of GPRS Services
Developing West African state Benin is to become the latest country to benefit from the mobile communications technology of ZTE.
In a contract with local operator OPT (Office des Postes et Telecommunications), ZTE is to provide a complete GSM national network in Benin, including GPRS capability on its existing GSM network.
"We will be working together with OPT to provide the best possible GSM network for Benin and we will be paying high regard to local geographical conditions, population distribution and the various regional economic features," said a ZTE’s African Sales Manager.
"This is our latest success in Africa, and we are excited by the opportunities presented here to extend our reputation for world-class equipment backed by local support and expertise." This sales manager added.
A special ceremony was held in Benin to mark the signing of the contract. This was attended by more than 100 people, including the Telecommunication Minister of Benin, the Vice Telecommunication Minister of Benin, the Ambassador of China in Benin, the CEO of OPT, and the General Manager of ZTE in Benin. At the ceremony, the Telecommunication Minister praised China highly for its great success in the telecom industry in recent years and expressed his wishes that ZTE and OPT will cooperate together for the future development of the telecom industry of Benin.
ZTE’s products have already been deployed in Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Zambia, Algeria, and Ethiopia. In 2003, ZTE built Africa’s largest CDMA WLL in Algeria. In Sept. of 2004, the first WCDMA network was launched in Tunisia by ZTE. In the same month, ZTE won the biggest CDMA WLL order from STC, Saudi Arabia’s largest telecom operator.
ZTE’s GSM solutions have played a significant role in developing ZTE’s overseas market presence. The GSM solutions have already been deployed in more than 20 countries. ZTE has also become a strategic partner with dozens of major international telecommunication operators, which have identified ZTE as a leading international vendor.
ZTE is one of the few wireless providers in the world market today that can provide a total solution in CDMA, GSM and PHS. It continually invests about 10% of revenues in research and development and has established 11 R&D centers around the world.
ZTE in Strategic Alliance to Bring Triple Play Broadband to India
World-class Television over IP (TVoIP) and high-speed broadband Internet access will be just some of the services available in the NCR region of Delhi, India following an agreement reached between ZTE Corporation and Atlas Interactive (India) Private Limited.
The strategic alliance, expected to be worth more than one billion Rupees, involves supplying and commissioning a TVoIP network as the foundation for a range of triple play (voice, video and data) services for subscribers.
"This historic agreement between our two companies will play a pivotal role in the broadband revolution and set a benchmark in Indian telecommunications," said Ms. Fang Rong, ZTE’s Vice President.
"These services will entertain, educate and facilitate communications, through a single, unique and flexible point of entry into homes and businesses. It will create for India a center of excellence in service delivery to customers, which will be the envy of much of the rest of the world and we are very proud to be working with Atlas to achieve it."
ZTE’s equipment has already arrived for deployment and commissioning. Combined with the Atlas "netTV" technology, it will produce a solution that is able to deliver video on demand, broadcast TV, music, video conferencing, SMS, email, Web, Intranet access and data at high speed broadband access speeds. Installation will take place around Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Noida and the service will be launched in the coming months.
The agreement with Atlas Interactive is the latest in a number of recent successes for ZTE in Asia: earlier last year, ZTE won contracts to provide Nepal Telecom with the biggest CDMA contract in the country’s history, and the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) with switching equipment for 59 cities and 220 towns.
ZTE Takes CDMA450 to Argentina
Argentina is to receive its first CDMA450 network following a contract agreed between operator Cotecal (Co-operative Telefonica Calafate) and ZTE Corporation.
ZTE is to provide a total solution of network infrastructure and terminals to support the project, which will give users various services including voice, G3 fax and high ratio packet data. The contract was signed at a special ceremony held by Cotecal in Calafate, Santa Cruz, Argentina. The state secretary of Telecommunications, Mr. Guillermo Moreno, the state secretary of Tourism, Mr. Enrique Meyer, the chairman of CNC, Ceferino Namuncurá, the President of Fecosur, Mr. Antonio Roncoroni, and the commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Wang Chuanxin, were present.
"This new contract marks a further strengthening of ZTE’s market position in South America and we look forward to delivering this flagship network for Argentina," said Ms. Meng Jing, Chief Representative of ZTE Argentina.
"Customers across South America and the world are seeing that ZTE has world class solutions across all of the mobile network systems and that we also have highly qualified people to back up and support our products."
ZTE has already deployed 20 million lines of CDMA equipment for more than 50 operators in over 40 countries including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Egypt, Indonesia, Algeria, Nigeria, Kenya, India, Indonesia and Vietnam. ZTE’s CDMA450 equipment has been used around the world, in Russia, Norway, Venezuela and Brazil, among other countries.
