19 July 2017, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that the National Data Center of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), which is exclusively designed and built by ZTE for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, Ministry of Posts Telecommunications & IT of Bangladesh, has been awarded its Uptime Tier IV Design Certification. Founded in 1993, the Uptime Institute is a globally recognised organisation focusing on data center standards and is also a third-party certification organisation. Uptime Tier levels are the most highly recognised and authoritative certifications in the data center industry with a certification system that is divided into four levels: Tier I, Tier II, Tier III, and Tier IV (top level). By awarding the Tier IV design certification to the National Data Center of BCC, the Uptime Institute is highlighting ZTE’s leading role in the data center field.
Bangladesh is a country with huge potential in ICT development. The government has the vision of building Digital Bangladesh by 2021, which is the main target for Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and ICT Division. There are total 52 ministries and 4 independent governing bodies in Bangladesh. Most of government employees use E-services such as E-filing and E-mail. BCC has set up the network for them, but they also need a very strong and secure data center. A high-end, world-class data center in Bangladesh is necessary for better service. Besides, the private sector has high demands for data center. Banks and many international companies need a strong reliable data center for lease.
The new national data center is very important for preserving, securing and sharing the data and for many things to be user-friendly. It will be at the heart of building Digital Bangladesh. The National Data Center of BCC is built in accordance with the Uptime Tier IV standard, which covers design, construction, and operation and maintenance (O&M).
In this complete turnkey project, ZTE is fully responsible for the civil construction of the park and buildings, data center physical infrastructure (DCPI), IT software and hardware, and O&M services. As the main body of this project, the DCPI was designed and constructed strictly in accordance with the Uptime Tier IV standard, and a reliability level of 99.995 percent is going to be reached. The data center has the most-advanced shockproof, flood-proof, and explosion-proof design to ensure its safety and reliability. There are 608 IT cabinets, power consumption ranges between 4 kW and 10 kW, the total electricity amount is 8500 KVA, the overall area is about 28,000 m2, and the floor area is about 18,000 m2. The successful project implementation underlines the technical strength of ZTE's world-leading products.
ZTE aims for the National Data Center of BCC to be a benchmark in South Asia and help elevate the image of Bangladesh in the world. The world-class national data center in its high-tech park will attract multinational companies, banks and large-scale national companies. At the same time, the data center will deliver social benefits by providing e-government, e-learning, e-business, and e-agriculture services for the public. Besides, the top-level design certification award for the National Data Center of BCC will also establish a benchmark for economic cooperation regarding the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.
