20 October 2016, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that 100G optical transport network (OTN) project has been completed and delivered to Telefonica Moviles Mexico (TMM).
The 100G OTN is deployed across six sites in the capital of Queretaro to satisfy customer demand for long term wireless services. It provides rigid channels with high rate and low delay in order to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) of private line services for large enterprises and major customers. At the same time, the future oriented Software Defined Networking (SDN) equipment can be gradually deployed to replace the conventional equipments so that TMM can benefit from cost effective upgrades to its network.
Telefonica Moviles Mexico is the second largest mobile operator in Mexico and a branch of Telefonica, the leading multinational telecom operator, which occupies around 20 percent of mobile market share. TMM began to conduct pilots with long-term evolution (LTE) networks in 2013 and in recent years has implemented large-scale deployments all around the country. TMM’s original metro area optical transmission equipment is mostly 10G wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) and SDN devices, which also carried some private line services for large enterprises as well as major customers. With the advent of the big data era and the rapid development of LTE services, TMM urgently needed to deploy a 100G WDM network throughout the country to relieve bandwidth stress and improve user satisfaction.
ZTE proposed a 100G OTN upgrade solution, which uses its mature optical transmission product, ZXWM M920. With a CX31 cross sub-rack, it can solve the conflict between inadequate site space and developing services. The service boards of the product can support multiple services access such as synchronous transfer mode n (STM-N), Gigabit Ethernet (GE), 10GE, and fiber channel (FC), which protects customers’ prior investment. It supports up to 2.8Tbit service access so that it can meet LTE service bandwidth demands over the next three years. To solve the inadequate site space problem, ZTE installs the CX31 cross sub-rack in only one cabinet to save space.
ZTE has taken a leading industry position in 100G/beyond-100G innovative technology. It has over 200 100G network application cases with a total 100G network fibre length of over 300,000km. According to the “Market Share Spreadsheet: 2Q16 ON Global” of OVUM, ZTE optical network has established a solid No.2 position in global market share for the rolling 4 quarter period from 3Q15-2Q16.
