On April 12 and 13, Broadband Asia & TV Connect Asia (BBWF) 2016 was held in Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta, Indonesia. More than 700 operators, governmental agencies, companies, media organizations, consulting firms, and other industry elites from over 50 countries in the Asian-Pacific region gathered together for this event, at which over 30 exciting speeches were delivered.
At this forum, ZTE demonstrated its overall brand image as an M-ICT enabler by exhibiting a full range of products, including 5G, SDN/NFV, big video, cloud bearer, Smart Home, IPTV/OTT, and O&M management. Currently, LTE has provided universal coverage. With the rapid development and integration of wireless and wired broadband, video and cloud services will inevitably become dominant sources of revenue for operators. With its future-proof network architecture as well as Pre5G, SDN/NFV, and other broadband solutions, ZTE will work with operators to provide users with a "5G-ready" service experience.
Debut of 5G and Pre5G
Following the development trend for mobile communications, 5G is believed to be the most suitable foundation for ubiquitous access networks. ZTE has always been at the forefront of the communications industry in innovative 5G research. As for the evolution from 4G to 5G, ZTE has proposed the Pre5G concept and solutions, and provided operators with feasible products and solutions for early access to 5G-like experience. The wireless products exhibited by ZTE this year attracted most visitors at the BBWF Asia 2016. In addition, Ms. Chen Zhiping, chief engineer for wireless solutions, explained the details of the state-of-the-art Pre5G Massive MIMO base station, which won the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough award and the Outstanding Overall Mobile Technology – the CTO's Choice 2016 award at MWC 2016 in Barcelona.
Partnerships with Global Major Telecom Operators in Fixed Networks
The mobile Internet era witnessed an explosive surge in bandwidth upgrade demands, stimulating the application of new technologies. The ubiquitous access technology has evolved towards a variety of technologies and multiple modes on the wired side. Mr. Shi Wenjun, marketing director of ZTE's fixed network product line, presented the model of collaboration between ZTE and Orange Spain. In addition, based on financing FTTX projects and their underlying business models, he elaborated the market conditions for the telecom operators in Southeast Asia, and offered strategic proposals on technological evolution and business planning accordingly.
Rebuilding Cloud Bearer through SDN
The SDN/NFV technologies have brought about a new round of changes and reconstruction in the ICT industry. At this event, ZTE officially released its ElasticNet-based bearer network solution, including cloud access, cloud interconnection, and cloud network, aiming to promote SDN/NFV application in the bearer network field. ZTE also showcased the OTN 9700 series, high-end T8000 routers, core switches 9900, new-generation IP RAN products (ZXCTN 9000-2E10), outdoor OTN (ZXMP M721 OD61) for mobile fronthaul bearer, and access-layer ZXCTN 608 series for Pre5G backhaul bearer. At this forum, Francis Yan, CTO for ZTE's bearer networks, delivered ZTE's bearer network solutions in the 5G era in a speech on the subject of Network Optimization, which facilitates operators' quick access to open, simple, and agile bearer networks.
Guaranteeing the Big Video Service with 4K STBs
As the cloud-based big video service is becoming increasingly popular and covering almost every aspect of people's lives, artificial intelligence (AI), intelligent video analysis, Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies have also become hot topics in the industry. The application of 4K and 8K ultra-HD video services and the increasingly well-developed AR/VR technologies allow people to communicate and interact with each other in a more immersive manner. With the rapid growth of mobile traffic, it is estimated that the video service will account for over 95 percent of the data traffic consumption on operator networks by 2020, and the video service will become the next revenue growth point for telecom operators. That explains why ZTE officially proposed the big video concept based on big networks, big content, big data, and big ecology at MWC 2016. At BBWF Asia 2016, ZTE demonstrated end-to-end 4K ultra-HD video solutions based on the current situation and demand in the Asia-Pacific markets.
During this forum, hundreds of important clients from Indonesia Telkomsel, Indosat, Smartfren Indonesia, Biznet, FiberStar, Myanmar Redlink, Global Technology, Hong Kong's PCCW, China Telecom, Singapore's MyRepublic, Azerbaijan BRTI, and other companies visited the booth of ZTE, obtaining a deeper understanding of ZTE's M-ICT strategy.
