26 October 2007, Beijing, China - ZTE Corporation ("ZTE"), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, demonstrated the capabilities of its MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) whole solution based on 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) R6 standard and HSDPA 7.2M/UPA 2M simultaneous transmission at PT/WIRELESS & NETWORKS COMM CHINA 2007 in collaboration with Qualcomm.
ZTE is the first to launch an MBMS Whole Solution and HSDPA/UPA Simultaneous Transmission in the industry, with the former also considered as a major breakthrough in extending MBMS' existing function of providing broadcast services only.
At the show, ZTE demonstrated MBMS solution's capability to achieve 128 and 256kbit/s high-speed transmission of MBMS television programs broadcast and multicast services over cellular networks. The success of the whole MBMS solution marks the readiness of its commercial availability to the mass market. On the other hand, the HSDPA 7.2M/UPA 2M simultaneous transmission demonstrated that dataflow between the system and Qualcomm 7200A terminal is up to 7.2M in downlink and 2M in uplink simultaneously.
"The successful introduction of MBMS and HSDPA solutions in the market further validates ZTE's technical expertise in UMTS R&D in the industry," said Fang Hui, ZTE's General Manager of UMTS Products. "With over a decade's R&D in developing UMTS technology solution, we are committed in providing customers with the best-in-class wireless solutions."
MBMS is a simple, fast, and easy-to-deploy mobile multimedia service application solution that helps operators save on network deployment costs in developing and offering mobile TV and other multimedia services. Another MBMS service under development is the multicast mode, which is expected to be a more effective and flexible platform of delivering media services. Collaborative efforts by leading industry providers to develop MBMS solutions, multimedia services such as advertising, TV programs, MMS, etc., these services will soon make the technology available over various cellular networks to small terminals such as handsets.
The HSDPA 7.2M and HSUPA 2M simultaneously bring high-data transmission experience for customers, allowing effective utilization of various data application services such as email access, downloading of information, movie player, etc.
As an active member of 3GPP, ZTE has included MBMS, HSPA and LTE in its long-term product roadmap. The company's aggressive R&D collaboration and customer-oriented marketing strategy has resulted in the deployment of ZTE UMTS products in more than 20 countries and regions worldwide.
