ZTE to build Armenia’s first DSL broadband network ZTE Wins DSL Projects in Armenia and Vietnam ZTE Corporation, the fastest growing global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has announced it has signed an agreement with ArmenTel, the incumbent Armenian operator, to build the first DSL broadband network for the country. In a separate agreement, ZTE’s IP-DSLAM FSAP 9800 and switches have been adopted by Viettel, the second largest and fastest growing convergent operator in Vietnam with substantial fixed, mobile and broadband users. A subsidiary of the Greek telecom operator OTE, a mainstream European operator with a substantial network footprint across the Balkans, ArmenTel is the largest telecom operator in Armenia with 100% of domestic fixed line users and more than 55% of mobile subscribers. It is also the only convergent fixed and mobile operator in the country. The broadband network will be deployed in the capital Yerevan and other major Armenian cities, laying the foundation for future capacity expansion. According to a report by Gartner, ZTE is now ranked third in the global IP DSLAM market and has over one third of market share in China. To date, ZTE’s DSL products have been used extensively in over 40 countries including China, Russia, France, Italy, Romania, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Brazil and Argentina. In 2004, ZTE supplied broadband products for Athens Olympic Games, and the DSL broadband network it built for 16 stadiums on behalf of OTE was highly commended for its reliable and fast performance.
