ZTE’s Total Patent Applications Top 6,000 in 2009
12 February 2010, Shenzhen, China-– ZTE Corporation (“ZTE” - H share stock code: 00763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that by late 2009 it had applied for more than 1,700 LTE/SAE patents. ZTE is focused on advancing the LTE market with strong innovation that will benefit both consumers and operators with 4G experience and functionality.
ZTE has recently increased its strategic funding in LTE research and development. While stepping up its investments in standards and patent research, the company has also strengthened its LTE commercial and experimental network building. ZTE has begun cooperation and tests with a dozen of world-class operators in Western Europe, North America, Asia/Pacific and the Middle East, including Telstra’s CSL, Telefonica, SingTel, Telenor, Commnet and China Mobile.
ZTE has become a strong force in the next-generation wireless communication market. In June 2009, Gartner released its LTE Network Equipment Vendor Scoreboard, rating the top ten vendors in seven areas including LTE product and services, and overall ability to successfully grow and innovate LTE technology. ZTE ranked third due to its continuous investment, R&D and outstanding field performances over the past few years with LTE.
At the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s TD-LTE Huairou Outfield Test Phase I in Beijing in January 2010, ZTE scored an “outstanding” rating, becoming the first equipment manufacturer to pass the industry test. At the LSTI Working Group Meeting held on January 27, 2010, the test results were submitted to the LSTI Organization as the industry’s first successful trial test result.
ZTE will set up more LTE networks and laboratories in Europe and North America in 2010 in as part of its commitment to advance the LTE market. ZTE currently has LTE laboratories or R&D centers in China, Germany, Hong Kong and the United States.
ZTE is poised to become one of the leading owners of basic patents of the LTE/SAE Standard. Statistics show that ZTE now has over 25,000 patent applications. In 2009, it applied for over 6,000 patents.
