16 March 2011, Shenzhen – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has received a Preliminary Acceptance Certificate (PAC) from Portuguese operator Optimus under a contract signed in early 2010. The PAC is to acknowledge that the ZTE Uni-RAN system meets all the requirements of the contract, and passes the operator's strict network key performance indicator (KPI) tests.
Optimus provides a full range of telecom services in Portugal, and is ranked the second fixed-line operator and the third mobile operator in the Portuguese telecom market.
In early 2010, ZTE and Optimus signed a GSM/UMTS contract including a LTE trial to replace the company's old equipment across four regions of central Portugal with ZTE software defined radio (SDR) base stations. This was in line with Sonaecom’s strategy of modernizing and replacing current infrastructure to be ready for LTE.
After analyzing the requirements of the networks and customizing base stations specifically for those needs, ZTE worked closely with Optimus through the project delivery stage. After only four months' implementation, with the first installation stages completed, ZTE has improved the overall KPI performance of the network.
"The involvement of the ZTE team was essential for the success of the project. With ZTE's help, Optimus has completed the equipment swap and achieved good KPIs from our tests, as well as increased network traffic. We appreciate the tremendous efforts put in by all the ZTE team during the last several months," said Mr. José Pinto Correia, CTO of Optimus.
