14 April 2011, Shenzhen – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that China Unicom has initiated a HSPA+ network upgrade, exclusively selecting ZTE to build HSPA+ PTN networks for seven key cities including Changchun, Ningbo and Wuhan to deliver high-speed network access to customers.

In order to enhance its 3G and broadband services, China Unicom has been strengthening its development of packet transport network technology since 2009 to increase up its local network speeds. Based upon PTN and IP RAN technology, the company has launched numerous indoor and outdoor tests, with a strong focus on verifying the technologies’ maturity and commercial viability. In February 2011, ZTE took the pole position in completing outdoor tests in Dalian. With 2G, 3G, broadband, NGN and LTE services, ZTE’s highly efficient network successfully delivered PTN integrated bearer capability, L3 VPN service and seamless interconnectivity with the existing MSTP network.

China Unicom selected ZTE due to its mature PTN devices, all-rounded solutions, innovations in L3 VPN and highly effective construction capability. As this PTN network is mainly deployed in urban areas where services are concentrated, it is believed to be an important upgrade for HSPA+ sites. The construction of this PTN network has also officially started the transition of China Unicom’s Delivery network, laying a solid foundation to facilitate China Unicom’s 3G and 4G strategies in the future.

With leading capabilities in the packet transport bearer field and a portfolio of advanced technologies and solutions, ZTE is not only China Unicom’s first network solutions testing partner in that area, but also became the top supplier twice in China Mobile’s previous centralized purchasing, and has launched large-scale applications across Europe and Latin America.
