Handset manufacturer to sponsor German premier league football team

21 August 2012, Düsseldorf, Germany – ZTE Germany, a subsidiary of ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of mobile phones and telecommunications network equipment, is to support the German premier league football team Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2012/2013 season as the official team partner and supporter of the youth' team. The partnership with the Bundesliga club is ZTE’s first sport sponsorship deal in Germany and demonstrates that the Düsseldorf-based company is strengthening its marketing activities and expanding its brand presence in Germany.

Both Fortuna Düsseldorf and ZTE have risen to the ‘premier league’ in their respective fields: Fortuna in football and ZTE in mobile communications. Last year, ZTE leapt into the top four global handset manufacturers according to market research firm IDC. This year, ZTE entered the top five smartphone manufacturers with eight million units sold in the first half of the year. The company, which was previously successful as a ‘white label’ manufacturer in Europe, has offered its mobile phones and data devices under the ZTE brand since the beginning of the year. Since then, ZTE handsets have played in the premier league - with the Android smartphones ZTE Skate, ZTE Racer II and ZTE Atlas in front of a German audience.

With this sponsorship, ZTE is committed especially to Düsseldorf, where the company's German headquarters and the headquarters of large German telecoms operators are located. As a world leading manufacturer of network technology, ZTE also supports the expansion of mobile networks for German operators.

About Fortuna Düsseldorf

Fortuna Düsseldorf was lifted out of the baptism on 5 May 1895 as a gymnastics club. In the following decades, the club was known primarily through football, because the red-whites could post a German championship (1933) and two DFB Pokal victories. The outstanding event was the finals at the European Cup (1979), that only the narrowest of margins lost with 3:4 against FC Barcelona.
