16 October 2013, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices has announced the successful modernisation of Bite Latvia Mobile’s transport network.
All the original SDH/TDM (synchronous digital hierarchy/time division multiplexing) network devices have been replaced with ZTE’s full IP PTN (packet transport network) equipment, connecting the operators GSM and UMTS communications over MEF (managed extensibility framework) certified E-Line services. The project covers the whole of Latvia and will dramatically improve Bite Latvia’s ability to deliver integrated solutions.
Bite Group is the Baltic region’s most influential mobile operator. It provides mobile communication services and enterprise data and Internet solutions in Lithuania and Latvia. Bite Latvia was founded in 2005, and is the third largest mobile operator in Latvia. The rapid growth in users and revenue has resulted in Bite Latvia becoming one of the fastest growing carriers in 2012.
Due to increasing demand for data services, the original TDM transmission network could not meet the demand created by the latest IP services and applications. The new ZTE ZXCTN series next generation PTN equipment will enable the operator to cope with this growing demand.
The new mobile backhaul network has adapted the latest multi-protocol label switching transport profile (MPLS-TP) technology. As a result it is more stable, reliable and offers improved transmission efficiency, effectively expanding Bite Latvia Mobile’s GSM and UMTS mobile service coverage area.
ZTE also provided theNetNumen U31, a powerful unified network management system, which has enabled the transport network to become more visible and predictable for all services, and also enables very fast end-to-end operations and maintenance and troubleshooting, dramatically reducing the challenges and the cost of operating and maintaining the network. The successfully delivery of the project makes it easy for Bite Latvia Mobile to plan and expand mobile backhaul capacities according to projected customer traffic growth.
“It was a truly challenging project for Bite and ZTE, involving suppliers from different fields, including wireless RAN, microwave and PTN transmissions”, said Modestas Ropė, director of Bite Latvia’s transport department. “ZTE’s ZXCTN series PTN products and solution have been hugely effective and enabled us to meet the demands of our growing customer base. The ZTE team was tasked with developing an integrated access platform, and the unified network management now provides end-to-end network manageability, making it easy to maintain the network and identify faults. The project has allowed us to achieve our business targets and we are looking forward to working with ZTE in the future.”
