24 November 2015, Macau – Hutchison Telephone (Macau) Company Limited (3 Macau), the Macau mobile telecommunications division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (stock code: 215), and ZTE Corporation (0763.HK/000063.SZ) – a leading provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions – have announced that 3 Macau’s 4G network will be up and running by mid-December. Customers will then enjoy fast and smooth world-class 4G LTE service that covers more than 90% of outdoor areas in a new era of 4G LTE mobile communications.
Network construction based on leading-edge equipment
As a leading local telecoms operator, 3 Macau adopts a philosophy of continuous improvement to the overall customer experience. Network construction began immediately after 3 Macau was awarded a 4G LTE licence in March 2015 by Macau Direcção dos Serviços de Regulação de Telecomunicações (DSRT). The project was based on ZTE’s leading-edge 4G FDD-LTE wireless and core networks, using technology compatible with 3 Macau’s existing 2G and 3G infrastructure.
4G LTE service will cover over 90% of outdoor areas
3 Macau’s 4G LTE network will provide more than 90% outdoor coverage of areas such as Porto Exterior, Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro, Areia Preta and Taipa by mid-December. This reach will embrace main business districts, large housing estates and shopping malls, as well as conference and exhibition centres. Customers can expect fast and stable download speeds up to 112Mbps, and 37.5Mbps for uploading, on 15MHz paired spectrum. Clear and smooth HD VoLTE voice functionality will follow soon.
Ho Wai Ming, 3 Macau’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We plan to invest more than MOP300 million to develop the 4G LTE network. Our robust network infrastructure, attractive tariff plans and superb customer service will ensure customers enjoy a fresh and exciting 4G LTE mobile telecommunications experience.”
3 Macau has submitted a variety of 4G LTE tariff plans for DSRT approval. They are expected to be attractive and meet customer needs, while encouraging migration to the 4G LTE network.
Zhang Ren-jun, ZTE Corporation’s Senior Vice President, said: “ZTE was honoured to have been chosen to construct a wireless and core network for 3 Macau. During that construction, ZTE’s outstanding team of technicians and engineers worked closely with their colleagues at 3 Macau. We encountered difficulties and overcame challenges together to ensure that an effective and high-quality 4G LTE network could be delivered on schedule.”
ZTE Corporation is well known for equipping the mobile communications industry with the latest 4G LTE technology, and holds a wealth of experience in network construction. By the end of June 2015, the corporation had signed 185 commercial 4G LTE/EPC contracts with leading telecoms operators all over the world.
