ZTE Advances African Telecommunications with First CDMA2000-based Fixed Next Generation Network (NGN)

Africa´s first CDMA2000-based NGN is to be installed by ZTE Corporation following an agreement announced on 27 July with leading fixed-line operator Mundo Startel. Under the agreement, ZTE, China´s largest listed telecommunications manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider, will be the sole provider of the network.
The new network will bring more advanced telecommunications services, including voice, data and wireless broadband, to eight states across Angola.  It will be the first time that ZTE installs an NGN, based on an IP platform with CDMA2000 1x and EV-DO technologies.

"Angola´s vast landscape and low population density is one of the major challenges to the successful vendor.  But ZTE is able to present a cost-effective, tailor-made network. With strong R&D capability and leadership in the NGN technology, ZTE has offered a perfect solution.  We look forward to developing a continuing working relationship with the company," said Mr. Ernst Nitschke, managing director of Mundo Startel.

ZTE´s CDMA2000-based NGN features large volume, complete network coverage, great performance, low construction cost and high flexibility for future expansion.  The contract in Angola follows global success for ZTE´s NGN solutions: the Corporation has won NGN contracts in Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Pakistan.

ZTE´s products have already been deployed in more than 20  African countries, including Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Zambia, Algeria and Ethiopia.
