• Ooredoo Myanmar and ZTE Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 5G development

15 May 2019, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ooredoo Myanmar to collaborate on 5G network development. The collaboration is one of many components of Ooredoo Group’s network modernisation program and will ensure that Myanmar is ready for the “Evolution to 5G”. 

This is the first partnership of its kind in Myanmar with ZTE, demonstrating Ooredoo’s commitment to support Myanmar’s digitalization journey. 

Mr. Alok Verma, Acting CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar and Mr. Yan Changzhi, CEO of ZTE Myanmar signed the MoU at Ooredoo Myanmar’s headquarters, with senior executives from both companies in attendance. 

This partnership will leverage the technical expertise of ZTE Corporation and support Ooredoo Myanmar’s efforts to provide a world-class telecom infrastructure for the people of Myanmar.

Ooredoo made history when it became the first operator in the world to launch a live 5G network in Qatar in May 2018. Ooredoo has been gearing up to test this new generation of 5G wireless technology since 2014.  Over the next few months, it plans to reach more world-first milestones by testing 5G mobile and networks through user trials and commercial launches across Ooredoo Opcos around the world.
