ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has been awarded a contract to supply its GSM equipment to Algeria磗 largest mobile operator, ATM Mobilis.
ZTE is to provide its cutting-edge BSS (base station subsystem) equipment in a major upgrade of ATM Mobilis? GSM network. The deal will improve the management of transmission between the radio network and mobile phones ensuring improved mobile coverage and quality.
"Algeria is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and this increased investment in telecoms infrastructure is essential to stimulate modern enterprise and continue this trend" said Mr. Zou Ying, General Manager of ZTE Algeria. "ZTE is pleased to extend its relationship with ATM Mobilis as it evolves its network to improve and extend the services it offers."
Already a major supplier for ATM Mobilis, ZTE`s product volume will reach two million lines, or about one third of the network`s total capacity, on completion of the contract. With 6.5 million subscribers, ATM Mobilis is the largest mobile operator in Algeria providing mobile services through its nationwide GSM network.
ZTE`s GSM products have been deployed by 40 operators in over 30 countries. To date, the total capacity of ZTE`s mobile products has reached one hundred and fifty million lines. In 2005 ZTE increased international sales by nearly 70% due in large part to investment in R&D, which has been maintained at a level of 10 per cent of annual turnover.
