ZTE, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has had the highest average sales growth rate of all the mainstream optical transport equipment providers over the last three years according to global telecoms analyst organisation OVUM-RHK.
According to OVUM-RHK, in the first two quarters of 2006, ZTE's share of the international long haul dense wavelength division multiplexing (LH DWDM) and ADM (add/drop multiplexing) markets was third and fourth respectively. The position of ZTE's optical transport products has improved rapidly in both domestic and international markets as heavy investment in R&D and diverse global experience have lead to international recognition and a variety of industry firsts.
"This recognition shows clearly the importance of ploughing profits back into product R&D to ensure that we can offer the best solution possible," said Mr Xu.Huijun, ZTE's vice president.
ZTE's optical transfer products have been deployed by over 130 operators in more than 70 countries. By the end of Sep. 2006, the accumulated length of WDM (wave division multiplexing) transmission lines built by ZTE was over 230,000km which, if stretched end to end, would reach around the Earth five and a half times.
Growth in the Chinese domestic market for ZTE's optical transport products has been strong in 2006, with a 70% share of China Telecom's 2006 WDM national trunk line project won earlier this year. ZTE also bid successfully for China Unicom's first 800G national trunk line project, leading to an exclusive deal with its 2006 long-haul transmission network plan to build five national WDM trunk lines.
On the international front, following the deployment of national trunk lines and transmission networks in many countries including India, Indonesia, Bulgaria, Morocco and Algeria, ZTE established a long-term partnership with KT (formerly Korea Telecom) and has begun supplying optical transmission backbone equipment.
