Secures a Commanding 71% Share of the Industry According to iLocus
05 January 2009, Shenzhen – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, is making significant inroads in India’s Next Generation Network [NGN] market by topping the industry with a commanding 71% share of the sector, according to a report entitled Carrier Nextgen Networks in India, released by iLocus, a well-known telecom consulting firm. In addition, NGN Quarterly Shipment Analysis report released by Dittberner, an international market research and consulting firm specialized in the telecommunications industry, shows that ZTE had the second largest NGN port shipment in the world in the third quarter of 2008.
An earlier report released by iLocus in December 2008 shows that NGN deployment in India has been rapidly growing. According to the report, local telecom operators in India have so far deployed NGNs that created a capacity of over 14.9 million Class 4 lines and 4.1 million Class 5 lines. The report also predicts India to become one of the largest NGN markets in the world in the next few years. By 2012, the NGN capacity deployed in the country is expected to reach 18.9 million Class 4 lines and 17.6 million Class 5 lines.
ZTE, according to the iLocus report is now the preferred NGN voice vendor of major carriers in India including BSNL, MTNL, Tata Teleservices, and Aircel.
Today, a huge number of ZTE NGN voice equipment has been deployed in India, allowing the company to maintain firm hold of the market with the largest share of NGN voice equipment industry in the country. This proven track record, according to the report, will play a key role in ZTE’s successful bid for more contracts in India in the near future.
“The positive results based on the iLocus report further reaffirm ZTE’s leading position in the NGN equipment market. We’re confident to further enhance our market share in India through the provision of a wide range of high quality and reliable NGN products with the best price and performance ratio and customized services to help telecom carriers meet the needs of the local market,” said Mr. Wang Xiaoqiang, General Manager of NGN Core Network Products, ZTE Corporation. “We’re honored to be adjudged as one of the leading industry players in India and are committed to helping the country enhance its national NGN infrastructure.”
With a population of about 1.1 billion, India is one of the fastest growing telecom markets worldwide, and plays a significant role in driving the global growth and demand for NGN. India now has about 300 million mobile users with about 39 million wireline subscribers, and 4.4 million broadband subscribers.
A pioneer in NGN R&D work since 1998, ZTE first introduced its NGN products commercially in 2001 and independently built the world’s largest long-distance NGN backbone network in 2005. The company’s NGN products have been widely deployed worldwide, gaining tremendous success in India and China, the two most populous countries with the fastest-growing telecom markets in the world. As of Q3 2008, ZTE has deployed more than 500 softswitch-based NGN sites in some 50 countries globally resulting in the establishment of over 180 million lines.
