"Expanding the LTE Boundaries" forum discusses the building of a new mobile internet of everything
3 March 2015, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, and GSMA hosted a forum covering the theme, "Expanding the LTE Boundaries" at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, on March 3, 2015.
The forum was attended by over 200 senior management representatives from well-known global telecom operators as well as representatives from the terminal chip and communications sectors. Attendees at the forum were encouraged to exchange ideas on the development trends of LTE networks and the latest service applications, and discussed a range of topics including the establishment of a new mobile internet of everything.
Zhao Xianming, CTO of ZTE, said in his speech, "The operating revenues in global telecommunications are growing steadily, and the sources of revenues and their proportions are changing. In the next few years, data services will exceed voice and SMS services, and become operators' main source of revenue. At the same time, with the long-term development of household, government, and enterprise customers, the proportion of revenues from such customers rises. The Internet of Things (IoT) and big data is coming to prominence, further driving the transformation of telecom operations."
At the forum Dr. Liu Guangyi, a chief scientist of wireless technologies at China Mobile discussed a range of topics including the company's time-division long-term evolution (TD-LTE) network deployment and operation experience, its Rich Communications Services (RCS) for operators facing OTT service challenges and the future of 5G.
Other speakers at the forum included the special councillor of CEO Mr Ted from SoftBank, who introduced the company's TD-LTE network development history and outlined the great commercial success it had achieved in Japan. The expert from H3G Austria Mr Mario described the company's LTE network evolution and user experience-oriented network upgrade experience, and also outlined successful collaborations with ZTE.
After presenting the Pre-5G concept at the LTE World Summit in Holland in 2014, Dr. Xiang Jiying, a chief scientist at ZTE discussed evolution from 4G to 5G. Dr. Xiang Jiying posited that the future telecom infrastructure network is mobile, IP/optical fiber-based, and smart/virtual.
The era of M-ICT has seen mobile communication expand from traditional communication between people, to information exchanges between people and machines and machine to machine (M2M). Mobile smart terminals, cloud applications, and the IoT will promote the explosive growth of data traffic, and drive 5G technologies towards 1000 times the current system capacity, 10 G access speed, 50 billion connections, and diverse scenarios.
Participants of the forum included ZTE partners and customers such as the Telefonica group, Telenor group, and KPN group in Europe, as well as telecom operators from all around the world.
