Beats off major global competitors to win in Central Asia
ZTE Corporation has clinched a UMTS contract with Indigo Tajikistan, a joint venture belonging to the American multinational carrier MCT. The project is also ZTE′s first UMTS contract in Central Asia and marks a groundbreaking competitive win over other global telecoms equipment providers.
Under the contract, ZTE will deliver a complete UMTS system based on UMTS R4, including MSC, MGW, HLR, SGSN, GGSN, RNC and Node Bequipment. The system to be built is based on a unified all-IP switching platform, guaranteeing its consistence and reliability, and ensuring ease of maintenance and a smooth evolution from R99 to R4 and to R5.
The system features ultra-high capacity and high integrity, with the ability of serving two million subscribers by three MGW servers or a single MSC Server. It also supports multiple and flexible networking modes such as IP, ATM and TDM.
ZTE will also deliver new UMTS terminals to help Indigo launch services such as wireless Internet access, streaming media and videoconferencing services.
"The project will initially serve 10,000 subscribers and enable Indigo to deliver new services such as streaming media, high-speed wireless Internet access and video calling – all to be launched at the beginning of next year," added Mr. Yu Hongkai, ZTE chief representative in Tajikistan.
Multimedia 3G services such as MMS, Java and WAP are on the launch agenda in the near future. ZTE will also deliver GPRS services as part of this project on the existing 2G network enabling Indigo to build a unified service platform.
