Brazil´s largest fixed line operator selects ZTE for Rio de Janeiro DSL network

ZTE Corporation (Shenzhen: 000063, Hong Kong: 0763), China´s largest listed telecommunications manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider, has been selected by Telemar, Brazil´s largest fixed line operator, to provide IP-based DSLAM terminals and ATM DSLAM for its DSL infrastructure.

Under the terms of the contract, ZTE will deliver its IP-based DSLAM and ATM DSLAM to Telemar for use in its DSL network in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil´s second largest city with over 12 million people.

The deal covers an important part of the contracts awarded by Telemar, and follows recent strategic partnerships for ZTE with Greece Telecom, Portugal Telecom and France Telecom.

ZTE´s IP DSLAM, while supporting emerging services like IPTV and multi-level QoS, enables the mixed access of multi-services including ADSL, VDSL, SHDSL and LAN. To date, the global shipment of ZTE´s IP DSLAM has exceeded 7,000,000 lines.

"A series of breakthroughs in South American marketplaces, and partnerships with world-class telecoms operators are further proof of ZTE´s competencies and competitiveness in the international DSL arena," said Mr Zhu Dongtang, broadband access product manager at ZTE.  "We have been consistently focusing on quality and service, and will further improve our technical support and service capabilities in broadband areas."

To date, ZTE has deployed over 12 million DSL products in more than 40 countries including Romania, Greece, Egypt, India and Pakistan. In March this year, Gartner reported ZTE as one of the top three DSL providers in the world, and at the 2004 Olympics ZTE´s DSL successfully provided athletes, referees, journalists and spectators from all over the world with quality broadband services in 16 venues and news centres.
