TeleCard and ZTE sign Contract for Supply of CDMA Wireless Local Loop in Pakistan

TeleCard Limited announced today signing a Contract with ZTE Corporation of China for expansion of its CDMA Wireless Local Loop (WLL) Network in Pakistan. According to TeleCard, this contract will enhance the total capacity of the company´s WLL network to 125,000 subscribers, which will cover a very large part of Pakistan´s land mass and population.TeleCard is a CDMA wireless local loop operator providing prepaid wireless phone services on a nationwide basis in conjunction with PTCL. TeleCard presently covers more than 40 cities and towns of Pakistan with more than 100 cell sites in operation. The new contract with ZTE will enhance the network´s coverage to more than 160 cities and towns and the surrounding areas utilizing more than 300 cell sites nationwide. The enhanced network will cover an estimated 100 million people, about 77% of the country´s total population. The expansion is expected to be completed within six months.TeleCard specializes in providing WLL based low cost communication services for the common people, especially in areas where traditional telephone connections are not easily available. Most of TeleCard´s customers use their phones as PCOs, which also provide employment opportunity to tens thousands of people. More than half a million people rely on TeleCard for meeting their daily communication needs at affordable prices.TeleCard believes that with the new expansion, it will have one of the largest wireless network footprint in Pakistan, and will bring the benefit of telecommunications to a lot of people who currently have very little or no access to such facilities. The company uses state-of-the-art CDMA 2000 services, deployed in very large numbers in the US, China, India and other developing markets. The technology is capable of providing high capacities, value added services and high speed data services to consumers.Telecard, operating under an agreement with PTCL, plans to have 125,000 prepaid wireless payphone customers in Pakistan. Currently the company has more than 26,000 customers throughout the country.
