ZTE announced that it successfully hosted IEEE（Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers）802.16´s Session #31 on 17-20 May 2004 in Shenzhen, China. It is the first time that IEEE 802 session was hosted by Chinese enterprise, and it is also another achievement ZTE has made in the international standards area.
More than 200 industry experts from the equipment vendors, operators and research institutes like Intel, Fujitsu, Siemens, Qualcom, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Nortel, Nokia, ZTE Corporation, China Mobile and Telecommunications Research Institute under MII (Ministry of Information Industry of China) attended the conference. By virtue of its strong technology capability in broadband wireless access area, ZTE has obtained several memberships in IEEE802.16 working group, and its experts are actively participating in the standardization work.
Formed in 1999, IEEE802.16 working group is mainly engaged in setting broadband wireless access standards, which specifies the WirelessMAN Air Interface and related standards. IEEE 802.16 addresses the "last-mile" connection in family, enterprise and wireless local area networks. With the formation of the universal standards, broadband wireless access industry will surely witness a fully booming period.
As China’s largest listed telecommunication equipment manufacturer, ZTE has always attached great importance to and participated in the R&D of international standards. To date, ZTE has been the sector member of ITU-T, ITU-R and ITU-D, and participated in more than 30 international standardization organizations like 3GPP, 3GPP2( 3rd Generation Partnership 2), CDG, OMA,OIF, RPRA, DSL, IPV6, MPLS, NPF, MEF, Wi-Fi, and MSF. In addition, ZTE has successfully hosted the 3GPP2 conferences for three times. From 2003 on, ZTE has been granted the rights to draft five ITU-T recommendations as an editor, such as G.raman, Y.vpn-qos and X.msec-3 and so on, which involve the areas like optical communication, IP network, information security and network management.
