Chinese leaders follow up Olympic Games DSL success with Venice showcase
An IP-based television service of telecom-class proportions is showcased for the first time anywhere in the world at this week´s Broadband World Forum by ZTE Corporation of China (stand No.2105).
ZTE, China´s largest telecommunications manufacturer, comes to the Forum in Venice (September 20-23) after having delivered one of the most advanced ADSL networks in the world for the Olympic Games in Athens. Its network covered 16 major centres at the Games, including the main venue, international broadcasting centre, the news centre and the press village, which were all able to access broadband Internet services throughout the event.
The Olympics was just the latest ADSL success for ZTE, which has nearly ten million lines installed worldwide.
"As well as the ADSL access, we are always anxious to develop world-leading applications for our customers to exploit and the IP TV service being shown on the stand is a real breakthrough for network operators in terms of the quality they will be able to offer their own customers," said Mr. Chen Jiang, GM, ZTE Europe.
"At ZTE we are extremely proud of the ongoing commitment we have always made to investing in research and development and also the recruitment of highly qualified personnel. World-class products like those on our stand in Venice are examples of the rich harvest we are reaping for that investment."
About ten per cent of ZTE´s annual revenues are committed to R&D each year and the company has 12 wholly owned research facilities around the world, including China, the United States, South Korea and Sweden. More than 80% of its staff hold bachelor´s degrees.
ZTE began R&D in broadband access products in 1997. It was one of the earliest developers of China´s ADSL, VDSL, SHDSL, ADSL2+ standards. To date, ZTE has deployed nearly ten million ports of DSL products in over 10 countries, including China, Greece, Thailand, India, the Philippines, Portugal, Hong Kong SAR and Pakistan. New developments see ZTE focused on constructing a win-win DSL value chain with operators and end-users.
