Service Innovation awarded for feature phone social network system
7 June 2011, Shenzhen – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, and Vodafone have won the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award 2011 for Consumer Service Innovation for a social network service (SNS) app available to Vodafone customers in Portugal, Italy, Spain, Greece, Czech and Hungary.
The SNS app, which is available in those countries on the Vodafone 547i feature phone from ZTE, integrates access to social applications Facebook, Twitter, Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger so that users can communicate with friends and family anytime, anywhere from a single app on their handset.
"The 547i gives users access to their social networks with just the touch of a finger, on a very affordable device and on the extensive Vodafone network,” said Dominic Trotman Terminals Global Account Director Vodafone Business Unit,ZTE Corp. “The social networking capabilities enable users to merge their online communications and their telephone conversations in a way that was not previously possible with a feature phone.”
Social network and IM services are usually only supported on smartphones, so the 547i feature phone brings high level social networking capabilities to a much wider audience. ZTE has already shipped more than 100,000 Vodafone 547i devices and expects the handset’s popularity to continue to grow.
