8 June 2011, Shenzhen – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced its GPON products have gained momentum and secured top rankings, according to telecom industry analyst Ovum.
Based on Ovum's "4Q10 Market Share - FTTx, DSL, and CMTS ports", among the top eight vendors, ZTE was ranked number one in growth between 2008-10 for worldwide GPON revenues, including GPON OLTs and ONT/ONUs. ZTE’s GPON revenues increased by 1787% between 2008 and 2010, and by 352% between 2009 and 2010. ZTE achieved the industry’s biggest gain in market share in EMEA for GPON ONT/ONUs between 3Q10 and 4Q10.
These top rankings were obtained following successful GPON contract wins with operators in Asia and Europe. In Asia, ZTE successfully completed the world's first large-scale commercial GPON-based mobile backhaul network for TELKOM Indonesia. In Eastern Europe, several operators deployed ZTE’s GPON solution. These include TEO in Lithuania, RDS & RCS in Romania and some Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) operators. In Western Europe, a strategic partnership agreement with Tiscali was signed to foster the development of ultra-wide broadband by FTTH technology in Italy.
"ZTE has consistently climbed up the GPON rankings, particularly in OLT shipments,” said Kamalini Ganguly, an analyst with Ovum’s Network Infrastructure Practice. “After a long period of slow growth, mainly in the US, we see GPON equipment now being deployed worldwide, including within China. ZTE has been able to seize this growth opportunity to boost its GPON revenues and market share.”
“Broadband shipment drivers included competitive pressures for both telcos and MSOs, demand for more bandwidth by consumers, traffic mix leaning towards an increasing level of OTT video, more HDTV offerings and national broadband rollouts. Ovum expects that all of these drivers will continue to raise FTTx shipments in 2011.”
"We are very proud that our GPON solutions, including ZXA10 C300 OLTs together with the F series ONTs, were selected and deployed by operators. This increases our GPON momentum and puts us in a leadership position in Ovum’s report,” said ZTE Vice President Xu Ming. "This is an acknowledgment of our relentless R&D efforts to develop innovative platforms that offer broadband providers high performance levels and that reduce their total cost of ownership.”
The worldwide application of ZTE's xPON optical access products including the world's first green, converged, multi-service, all-optical, large-capacity and high-density ZXA10 C300 next-generation optical access platform has reached 93 million lines. This includes over 47 million broadband ports.
