ZTE is to install its first Sri Lankan CDMA2000 network
ZTE Corporation (Shenzhen: 000063, Hong Kong:0763), the fastest growing global provider of telecommunications equipment and solutions, is to deploy its first Sri Lankan CDMA2000 network following an agreement signed with Sri Lanka Telecom Limited (SLT), the country´s largest fixed-line operator.
ZTE won the contract in competition with other global telecoms equipment suppliers and will be the sole vendor responsible for the construction of a new nationwide CDMA2000 network. The network will employ ZTE´s end-to-end all-IP CDMA2000 solution including two all-IP 3G core networks, two Base Station Controllers (BSCs) and 120 base stations.
The nationwide network, due for completion by early 2006, will provide intelligent network services, voice mail services, wireless high data rate services, location-based services, and GoTa digital trunking services.
"ZTE´s customised solutions and quality yet cost-effective products, combined with their prompt responses, gave us an efficiency nobody else could match," said Mr Shuhei Anan, CEO at Sri Lanka Telecom. "This system will help us further focus on areas with poor telecommunications development such as the north, east and deep south of the country."
"This is our first CDMA network in Sri Lanka, and it will mainly employ all-IP technology," said Ms Fang Rong, VP at ZTE. "It will help lower SLT´s equipment management costs, and provide greater flexibility in networking, transmission, management and maintenance of the network.
"We believe that our CDMA technology and solutions are ideal for the market and that this new network will significantly improve telecommunications in Sri Lanka."
ZTE is the only Chinese vendor with a complete package of independently developed and own-branded CDMA base stations and switching systems. To date, ZTE has deployed 25 million CDMA lines in 60 countries around the world.
