Mongolia´s Information & Communications Technology Authority (ICTA) has launched the country´s first commercial international NGN gateway, provided by ZTE, the fastest growing global telecoms equipment manufacturer.
The launch ceremony, held in the Mongolian capital, Ulan Bator, was attended by Mr Chimid Saikhanbileg, the director general of ICTA and other Mongolian government officials.
The gateway will regulate Mongolia´s IP international long distance market. There are 12 IP operators in Mongolia, including the country´s four largest operators MTC, Mobicom, Skytel and MTZ.
"The gateway office will also enable prepaid card services on the NGN infrastructure, so that any subscribers within Mongolia´s border can access international VOIP services," said Mr Zhao Yujia, ZTE Mongolia´s chief representative. "The gateway project will soon be completed and will go into service in January 2006."
"The successful launch of the project will strengthen the government´s market regulating ability, help lower telecom tolls further and provide additional communications services to the Mongolian people," commented Mr.Saikhanbileg.
ZTE´s products and solutions have been widely deployed in the ICTA, MTC, Skytel and Mongolia Railway networks including CDMA, video-conferencing, transmission, switching, GSM repeater, ADSL, WLAN, BWA and NGN systems and mobile phones.
"The launch of the international NGN gateway is an important step in the evolution of the combined Mongolian networks towards NGN and paves the way towards achieving total NGN coverage in Mongolia," said Mr.Saikhanbileg.
ZTE initiated a feasibility analysis of the technology in 1998. As the first Chinese member of ISC(International Softswitch Consortium), ZTE has also edited standards on NGN technology for the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
So far, ZTE has constructed more than 100 NGN networks around the globe, including China´s first commercial NGN network as well as the installations in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Philippines, Tajikistan, etc.
Last month, the American telco Corisat selected ZTE to build a network enabled by ZTE NGN solutions to deliver enhanced calling services and wholesale VoIP services across America and Latin-America. The contract with ICTA this time continues ZTE momentum in global NGN market.
